After a quick Google, I think what I used was this: http://hivelogic.com/articles/converting-from-mercurial-to-git/ -- very easy and kept all the commit history intact. For the first, andone who uses git can work out how to use github easily (and there are instructions available of course) -- I did, so I'm sure you can!
