See http://maxima.sourceforge.net/docs/manual/en/maxima_4.html for what the "reset()" command does: not that much. The description doesn't make it sound it should help you much with memory leaks. It should also not lead to a segfault (although there may be variables that get reset to values that sage doesn't expect, so it may well be that sage will act funnily when you execute reset). I wasn't able to reproduce the segfault. Would you have a concise code fragment that can reliably reproduce the segfault?
