I also use Xcode 3.2.6 (freshly installed) , but building always crashed 
when gcc 4.6.3 was going to be installed on my machine.
I figured that I could install the gcc package manually,  downloaded it and 
ran the installation...with the same result.
really don't know what the problem is...
