Thanks for the instructions below. However, I cant get setxkbmap to make a difference in the .xinitrc file. I am trying to change keyboard to a UK keyboard in Notebook, but nothing seems to work. Successfully changed the console to UK by altering /etc/sysconfig/keyboard. Please advise on appropriate settings for setxkbmap... tried "setxkbmap uk" and variations. Is there a list of values that I can use?
