I think he's actually asking about the -i flag. I was just wondering the same thing.
sage myfile.sage runs myfile but doesn't return the interactive prompt. I'm guessing the goal is to run a script and have it end with a sage prompt and some stuff loaded for a session. sage -i looks for packages to install, python -i gives interactive mode.
