A quick google search for "virtualbox shared folder linux" yields some tutorials. Apparently you still have to mount the folder in linux:

I haven't done this before, though. Typically I will use ssh to get things on/off the virtual server. You might find using winscp or something like that to work well too as a file transfer mechanism.
