I've installed sage.4-3-3 one month ago on fedora 12 without any problem.

Are you sure to have installed :

GCC, g++, make, m4, perl, ranlib, and tar.

You can check with the command-line :

yum provides ranlib

I got : gcc version 4.4.3 20100127 (Red Hat 4.4.3-4) (GCC)  as you

good luck

Objet: [sage-support] Sage 4.3.3 Fails To Build On 64 bit Linux System
(gcc.4.4.2)
À: sage-support@googlegroups.com
Date: Dimanche 21 mars 2010, 21h38

I attempted to build sage-4.3.3 from sources but the build failed during the
attempt to build PARI.  The system is a new Intel iCore 7 system, 12 GB
memory, running Fedora 12.  I ran a query script to show what is installed,
based on what was called out in the Wiki regarding building from source.
The Wiki entry on building from source says that on 64 bit Linux systems,
sage-4.3.3 fails to build with the gcc-4.3.0 compiler, but work is going on
to fix that, but it's not clear what date the Wiki page was created, and so
I'm not sure if that's the current state or not.

I had some troubles getting Sun Studio12.1 installed which ended up being
due to a need for some 32 bit libraries (the Sun Studio application is a 32
bit application, though it runs on 64 bit systems and can build for 64 bit
systems).  I don't have readline libraries in their 32 bit form, as the
output of my "showstuff" script shows, but they do exist in /usr/lib64.
Same for gmp.   Does the 64 bit build need some 32 bit libraries or is it
the case that the sage-4.3.3 doesn't yet build on a gcc.4.4.3 compiler?

Attached are the install.log output, my "showstuff" script and the output of
it ("system.config").
