When I unpack the binary sage-4.3.1-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-x86_64-
Linux.tar.lzma on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 and run the sage
script I get loads of ImportErrors (see below).

When I remove the directory sage-4.3.1-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-x86_64-Linux
and unpack the previous version instead (sage-4.3-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-
x86_64-Linux.tar.lzma) the sage script runs fine.

I have verified the md5 sums so the binary packages appear not to be
corrupted.
