Just install the OS X binary (e.g.,
http://boxen.math.washington.edu/home/wstein/binaries/sage-4.3-osx10.6-intel-64bit-i386-Darwin.dmg)

Regarding frequent updates -- if that bothers you, then don't update.

No.

No, it doesn't.   Sage is designed to be fully self contained.
