If you are going with Ubuntu, you may wish to know that 9.10 will be released tomorrow. More importantly though: the version of sage in the repository of the last release is pretty old... (3. something) I have no clue if someone fixed that for 9.10.
If you're comfortable downloading it and installing it by hand it doesn't matter, though. That's what I do.
