A sad tale: Introduction:
IBookG4 OSX 10.5.8 PATH = /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/ Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/bin:/opt/local/ bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/ sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/texbin:/usr/X11/bin Chapter The First: I downloaded both the OSX 10.4 and OSX 10.5 versions of the PowerPC .dmg files. Then I mounted the OSX 10.5 .dmg file and copied the sage folder to my hard disk. When I tried to execute sage, it died with a message about an illegal instruction (which seems to be from a Python-esk program). So I dismounted the disk image and discarded both it and the copy of sage on my hard disk. Chapter The Second: I then attempted to mount the OSX 10.4 .dmg file, but this died with the message from the operating system that the file was damaged and recommended that I not proceed. Being a natural sceptic, I tried downloading the same file from another server (in fact, two other servers) and got the same error. Optimist that I am, I finally mounted the damaged .dmg file and tried to copy the sage folder to my hard disk. The copy died with an error, the nature of which is irrelevant to the hearer of this tale. End of tale I do wonder at times if these .dmg files are tested before release. I am sure they are, but I cannot be the only one around who sees these problems. The 10.4 .dmg file can easily be rebuilt and released again, but why does the 10.5 version of sage die on an internal error?
