This is almost a year old, which is getting pretty old, especially given the fast pace of Sage development. Later versions of Sage should give better error messages if "convert" (from the ImageMagick suite) and/or "dvipng" are not installed. At least one of these is necessary for getting latex output in the notebook. You might consider upgrading or asking your sysadmin to upgrade.
