Mike Hansen did some much-needed overhauling of the plot code to expose more of the Matplotlib layer that underlies everything. I think one of the goals was better access to a matplotlib axes object. Mike, did I understand things correctly? What is the status of that? (I know you have your fingers in lots of Sage projects and are busy with other things too, though).
