I think you need to modify your apache setup. Here's the httpd.conf file I use
for sagenb.org.  Note below the
        <Location />
           DefaultType text/html
        </Location>
which is very important -- without it I get the behavior you see.

ProxyRequests off
<Proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</Proxy>

<VirtualHost *>
        ServerName sagenb.org
        ProxyPass    / http://sagenb.org:8000/
        ProxyPassReverse / http://sagenb.org:8000/

        <Location />
           DefaultType text/html
        </Location>
</VirtualHost>

ServerName sagenb.org
