Did you try using the Sun Java SDK? If jmol never works with gcj, I propose that when calling to jmol (esp. from the command line where we have control), we check if gcj is going to be used, and if so, just give an error and tell people they have to install the Sun Java SDK or should use viewer='tachyon' instead.
