I just tried untarring it and didn't get any errors. Maybe your
download was corrupted?
Here are the md5sum and file sizes. What exact trouble did you have
uncompressing sage-2.9.1?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/incoming/bin/linux/32bit$ md5sum
sage-2.9.1-linux-ubuntu-32bit-i686-Linux.tar.gz
92611831ffd57ef8a00299fcba79c5d0
sage-2.9.1-linux-ubuntu-32bit-i686-Linux.tar.gz
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/incoming/bin/linux/32bit$ ls -l
sage-2.9.1-linux-ubuntu-32bit-i686-Linux.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 sage sage 297582064 2007-12-25 19:38
sage-2.9.1-linux-ubuntu-32bit-i686-Linux.tar.gz
