Your options: (1) Upgrade to a recent version of Ubuntu, as June 2006 is pretty old, or (2) try building from source, or (3) Try the file sage-2.8.2-OLD-32bit-i686-Linux.tar.gz in this directory http://sagemath.org/SAGEbin/linux/32bit/ It was built on a fairly old machine that hasn't been upgraded in years...
