Greetings,
My name is Kristopher Lee, and I am a new Lecturer at Iowa State University. I
attended the Sage workshop that you and T.J. ran at the MAA Section meeting. It
was a great workshop, and I am now quite interested in Sage. In particular, I
am looking for ways to implement it in the classroom (such as the interactive
option you demonstrated at the workshop). I talked to Steve Butler, who set me
up with the Sage server we have here at ISU, and he said that I should get in
contact with you about the state-of-the-art when it comes to Sage.
So, if you could, I'd greatly appreciate any and all information on the
interactives with Sage, and anything else you might think would be useful for
me to know when it comes to implementing Sage in the classroom. I am teaching
Calc III and Diff. Eq. this semester, and it seems that this is what I will be
teaching next semester as well, so anything that pertains to these two courses
in particular would be great.
Here are some ideas:
* subscribe to sage-edu:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/sage-edu, and make
sure to ask questions there. In fact, I'm CCing this message there in
case other people have ideas.
* look at some recent documentation that we just added that covers
things from calc 3 and differential equations. It isn't quite out yet
(should be any day now), but the draft versions of the worksheets are
published at http://sage.maa.org/pub/, in particular:
* I've added a lot of Sage demonstrations for Calc 3 to
https://github.com/downloads/jasongrout/multivariable-calculus-IBL/Math100-20120426.pdf
(just search for "Sage" to find clickable links in the PDF files)
* You can look here: http://wiki.sagemath.org/interact/ and here:
http://interact.sagemath.org for other ideas
* David Joyner has a book on differential equations in Sage. You might
find useful examples in there: http://wdjoyner.com/writing/teaching/
Thanks,
Jason
