Well, I haven't had a chance to setup a SAGE server locally or even install SAGE as a local client on my linux boxes. So, I'm simply giving my students the liveSAGE CD to boot up. I've decided to "go all SAGE all the time" these last few weeks after the AP exams to get used to using SAGE in class.
My AP Calculus students are using the free Calculus texts in pdf format on http://www.sagemath.org and so that's now a "Calculus & Scienctific Computing Lab" or "Calculus & Computer Algebra Lab." My AP Computer Science students are using the textbook http://www.skylit.com/mathandpython.html to run a "Discrete Math & Numerical Methods Lab." I'm OK with server response time online now using a SAGE server alternate to http://www.sagenb.org/ My issue now is that there's no way to print or save files while running the liveSAGE CD. I'm using version 4.2, BTW. My Computer Science students, for example, are used to saving their files on an sftp server I setup for them in my office that they can also access at home when doing projects in java using linux. However, I see that the liveSAGE CD does not support ftp, sftp or ssh. Am I missing something? What I'm having my students do is work online on a sage server we all have accounts on. When they are done with an assigment, instead of saving a file locally or printing, I have them "save & quit" the worksheet online and then "share" it with my account. I can grade their work this way, but I like to grade hardcopy and having to open every worksheet myself and print from another PC with Firefox is a hassle. BTW, I gave the students the liveSAGE CD not in order to run a SAGE server on each student PC, but to give them Firefox which is apparently banned at my school.... TIA, A.
