Nils, in your case were you building from scratch or it was an update of
an existing compiled version? Did you try on the 8.1.rc4? It would be a
mess to have 8.1 out with this failure.

I actually had a similar problem when building the latest "develop" branch.
I "solved" the problem by checking out 8.0 instead and building that. That
worked fine.
This is on an old fedora. On a working install, I did
git checkout develop
git pull
make build
[...] problems
git checkout 8.0
make build
[...] no problems

Hi everyone,
I am working on a guest Ubuntu LTS 16.04 inside a Windows 7 host, using
a Virtual Machine (VMWare Workstation 12 Player).
I am using git trac and I have issues in building the branch-develop
version of sage.
It was alright one or two months ago, but now, I have a fatal failure:
Error building package python2-2.7.14.p2.
The issue seems to be coming mostly from _ctypes, which fails to build.
I have added to this message the corresponding log file.
On the Ubuntu OS, Python 2.7.12 is installed. I have also installed pip.
I am a little bit at loss at what I can do to circumvent this problem,
so I am writing to you.
With best regards,
Tristan
