Tou may also accept to lose the benefits of the package management system of R (dependencies, version checking and the like...). Mos "normal" R users wont't stand it. Furthermore, by refusing to ensure the presence of a library necessary to R, you force the poor sod willing to maintain R (me, currently), to maintaint a patch that serves no useful purpose other that to protect your precious OpenSSL maidenhood.
