R has vastly more resources than us to put mildly.

I apologize - It was a mistake how we released sage and broke a large
number of spkg's just because we didn't want to include a backwards
compatible symlink (which I do with my sage install recipe still).   If
we want to make changes that break a lot of stuff then we should also do
the work to update all the packages.
