right now I am visiting a place called Simons Instititute for Theory of Computing (yes, at UC Berkeley) So they are willing to fund CS theory; looks like someone has to remind them that theory without practice is a bit of nonsense, and goes hand in hand. (No, they don't pay me a cent, to the contrary, they forced me to fork out a lot for all that J-1 (in place of WB) visa nonsense, with expensive insurance etc attached...) Another theory would be that they believe in free market BS so deeply that they just cannot imagine a project like Sagemath working... In this case their belief goes so far that they are funding a monopoly, that is to say, Magma, in effect to crush a deviation from their BS model... Nobody expects Spanish Inquisition...
