This seems very reasonable. I think that the point in the installation guide is that one doesn't actually need git to compile Sage; presumably quite a few people only compile it and never do anything with it that requires git. But of course cross-links are very good; we need more of them TO the installation guide, in fact, as it is a very comprehensive but under-appreciated resource. > Are there any reasons not to do this?
