Hi,

We have just released version 0.4 of
SageManifolds<http://sagemanifolds.obspm.fr/>
There are almost no new functionalities with respect to version 0.3, but
the internal code has been seriously amended. Following discussions on this
list and with Sage experts in Paris, the coordinate charts and the vector
frames have been made hashable and are now used as keys in various internal
dictionaries (like the dictionary of sets of components of a given tensor
field with respect to various vector frames).
Besides, Sage's Parent/Element scheme has been implemented for
Domain/Point, with Domain in the category of Sets.

See also example worksheets <http://sagemanifolds.obspm.fr/examples.html>based
of version 0.4 and the main
documentation <http://sagemanifolds.obspm.fr/documentation.html> (including
the reference
manual<http://sagemanifolds.obspm.fr/doc/sagemanifolds/index.html>
).

The sources of version 0.4 are available in a branch of trac.sagemath.org
(see ticket #14865 <http://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/14865>).
The development version is at https://github.com/sagemanifolds/ and can be
installed according to these
instructions<http://sagemanifolds.obspm.fr/install_from_git.txt>
.

In view of a better integration into Sage, the tensor algebra part of
SageManifolds is currently refactored, in a branch devoted to tensor
products of generic free modules. By *generic* it is meant without any
privileged basis; this applies to tangent spaces at points of the manifold,
but also to tensor fields on parallelizable subdomains, which form a free
module over the ring of differentiable scalar fields. This "tensor on free
modules" part should be included in version 0.5. Since it is completely
independent of the rest of SageManifolds, it could constitute a first
integration of a well defined subpart of SageManifolds into Sage. Further
work on this should take place during Sage Day 57 in Cernay.

As usual, comments and suggestions are most welcome.
