Well, I tried installing pyglet into Sage by getting its source (1.2beta1, it seems) and running the setup from Sage's shell prompt (aka "sage -sh") It seems to work, at least I see tests passing. So nothing seems to prevent you from using it from Sage. I guess more web-friendly, or just more mature at that time options were chosen instead.
