Fair point. I am pretty sure that ssh-ing into the machine from another will not do anything with locales. I must have answered some questions during the ubuntu setup process which gave away the fact that I want things to be UK-ified (e.g. the keyboard). I am expecting to have to reinstall the system on this box since I don't have its RAID configured correctly anyway. Next time, I'll look out for anything which could have set this locale.
