It fails for me too. I added the lines Host trac.sagemath.org IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_git User git in ~/.ssh/config, and pasted in the contents of id_rsa_git.pub but again it drops back to a password prompt. I was using my same public key as I use for github.
