hi, yes, i think that's an interesting project.
have you seen sympy's tensor module?

It has probably already solved some basic issues around Python's syntax and
so on, and duplicating that behavior for Sage specific objects might be
useful. (Disclaimer: I haven't deeply looked into both ways of expressing
tensors and I also don't know what features are actually desireable)
