Hi all,

The last few weeks there has been a marked increase in spam of the
following nature on ask.sagemath

Title: Irrelevant Question
Content: How do I do something unrelated to Sage
Answer (by different author): Your best way of doing it is at the following
website or email link

It seems to always be from new users, so I don't think that banning them
will be useful, though we could try. Currently, people have been flagging
them but NOT closing them, and then I have been deleting them. I think
this is the best short-term solution - please do NOT *close* them, as then
I cannot delete them.

Longer-term, we need to think about ways to keep spam to a minimum at this
useful resource. Any ideas? I don't think we want to ask for real
registration - there are many people who have not filed tickets since one
needs to ask for one at Trac, for instance, and this class of users would
probably be even less likely to want to do this.

I *do* think that we need a little discussion of privileges at
ask.sagemath; is there currently anyone at all who can delete closed
questions, for instance? http://ask.sagemath.org/faq/ seems pretty
incomplete on such things. I don't even know who the site admin is.
Along similar lines, it is silly for Jeroen to have to keep asking someone
to move all open tickets to the next release goal - surely he has enough
Trac experience to have this privilege :) So it would be helpful for
someone who actually knows this stuff to let the rest of us know. I'm sure
eventually other even more clever spam issues will bring this up again,
sadly...

Happy New Year,
- kcrisman
