I just compiled the hot-from-the-stove development release 3.11.3 and it compiled in about two hours on my arm box. I'm now eagerly waiting for a stable version containing the relevant changes.
I still think that from a purely architectural point of view it would be better to have blas-agnosticism in sage, but atlas has gone way up in my esteem!
