At least with "native" stuff, for sure.  As with certain other (more 
applied) areas, it's a chicken-and-egg thing.  Stats people in general 
don't really have a need for the other infrastructure of Sage, so getting a 
developer with time and expertise and interest would be a nontrivial thing 
to do.  The author of "Data Analysis with Open Source Tools" basically says 
as much; I think he's missing the point, but for someone truly only 
interested in data analysis, a lot of Sage is not really needed.

But if the statsmodels stuff is mature and ready to be used like numpy, 
maybe it would be pretty easy to do?  At least to help with our "native" 
stuff, limited as it is.  I did NOT like rpy/rpy2 syntax, so something 
preferable to that would be helpful.
