I tried this in a 11.10 virtual machine, and it created the user's .sage directory as owned by root -- with 700 permissions, so when I try to start Sage, it fails because it can't read that directory. In another virtual machine, I got something similar, where the matplotlib directory was owned by root. This may be related to having used Sage previously on those machines, but in any case we shouldn't create root-owned things in the user's directory!
