Thanks to Robert for the quick fix, Keshav and aapitzsch for their help. There is a ticket to remove the symbolic power_helper module: http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/8659 I just uploaded a patch that passes all tests here. It would be great if someone can review that as well.
