I noticed this on the Gnu Scientific Library (GSL) mailing list.
Brain seemed a very nice man. I once pointed out to him that some closed-source code was using the GSL. He suggested to the developer that he use some other code, and gave me a copy of the GSL book as a thank-you.
I also had no problems getting an HP-UX specific fix incorporated into GSL, which became necessary when I tried to build Sage on HP-UX. (Something I don't think I'll ever do, but if someone would fix that Pynac issue, I'll continue the 64-bit Solaris port.)
