I was explicitly deciding against Ubuntu, because I made the experience on the computers here in the department that the pseudoTTY had a very high latency, and thus all pexpect interfaces were running extremely slow. I am too lazy to look up the sage-devel thread on that topic. The problem comes with every Linux distribution based Debian, and the solution is to patch the Linux kernel, but I didn't feel confident of doing this myself. And then I remembered good experiences with running Sage on some Laptop a few years ago, which was on SUSE. So, I thought openSUSE was a good choice. Too bad.
