Hi, sorry, I guess it boils down to doing a bit of debugging on Oneiric. Seems to hard to guess what is wrong there without access to such a system. (And as you have a 32-bit system, which are getting extinct rapidly, it's not looking too good...)
The problem is in building Maxima using ECL on your system. That might mean that it's not really a Sage bug, but ECL and/or Maxima bugs.
