Altough the attribute exponents behaves very different from the degrees function and there is no function exponent doing something similar to degree. What I think is that there should be two sets of functions, one set witch does the degree and degrees stuff depending on the grading of the algebra and one set witch does exactly the same but then considering all generators of the polynomial ring as degree 1. And ideally this should all be independent of the monomial ordering used for groebner basis.
