Sounds very interesting. When digging up some old discussion on sage devel [1][2] on this subject I saw you already know Robert Bradshaw who was also thinking about using Nix for sage package management our implementing something similar ourselves. And from the old discussion it seems that there are certainly more people on sage-dev interested in a similar project.
To get this project started I guess it's good to reach as much interested parties as clearly is also the purpose of the separate blog. I see you at least also notified the scipy and the cython people. Did you already contact the NIX people themselves? From their svn it seems that it's still under active development so it would be good to here their thoughts (the main author seems to be a postdoc in Delft wich is very close to where I live). Also people from Qsnake, http://qsnake.com/ might find this blog interesting. And there was also a project who used the sage spkg system but I can't seem to find it anymore :(. I really hope this project will succeed.
