For the last several releases, I've made a release branch and then
successive x.y.0, x.y.1, etc. Usually it takes a couple of iterations
to
stabilize, and then I make a general announcement.

We used to have release candidates but given that the final rc has
to be renamed and re-released, I decided to just skip that part.
