That's a really tricky question, probably people will have to play with it 
for a bit before they realize what will work best. I would leave it as a 
work in progress ;) One thing that comes to mind is having a "close the 
matching paren or quote" button (like CTRL+0 in the notebook).

I know that ssh iphone apps have gestures, like swipe across the screen to 
TAB and so on. Is that had to implement, it would clear the visual clutter.
