Ok, this is to report a successful build of Sage 4.7 from source on OpenSuse 11.4. But there are a couple of things I really would like to see to be added to future README file for OpenSuse. Note I am sure the two problems have been known for a while for those who have worked on this, but for a newcomer like me, it is just two lines of warning, but will save half day's frustration (while waiting for the solutions for the second ppl problem I posted above, I have been installing virtualbox to use Ubuntu so that I can use the binary. Fortunately this gets through before that one is done).
Follow all the instructions on README plus the following two: 1. Install readline-devel 2. Under the local/lib/ there are two ppl file: libppl.so.9.0.0 AND libppl.so.9. Link both of this to your system's ppl. In my case, the default one is under /usr/lib/libppl.so.9.0.0. Since my OpensSuse is freshly installed, I guess my exp will be generic.
