This may not be directly related, but see http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/2100 for a long-standing ticket that Jason and I need to finish up - we basically just need to agree on defaults, but the patch should apply nicely, or at least used to. The default is from matplotlib and shouldn't be golden ratio.
