Dear Sage / Sage-Combinat devs, Last week was held the yearly meeting of the Groupe de Recherche Informatique-Mathématique of the CNRS [1]. It was a good occasion to discuss about Sage with "higher authorities", and it was suggested to us to organize a Sage "summer" school in France targeted at the training of young researchers and teachers.
This is a call for volunteers for organizing it! Some preliminary thoughts after a quick discussion with Florent Hivert and Thierry Monteil: - (next?) Fall could be a good time, typically during the vacations. - As a first approximation, we could aim for 40 participants. - The organizers can count on the usual suspects for the Sage lectures and tutorials. Of course it would be good to bring in fresh blood as well, and the school would most benefit from broader lectures by computational experts not necessarily in the Sage community. - What about the location? Here are some constraints: - Lecture room for approximately 50 people. - Good internet connection with Wifi. - Possibly a computer room, even though we can expect that most participants will bring their own laptop. - Reasonably cheap and simple lodging and meals on the spot or close by (we want to foster late coding parties and interactions outside of the lectures) - A personal preference for a nice surrounding :-) Les Ouches or the CIRM would be perfect choices, but it's too late for this Fall. Aussois [2]? Other suggestions? - We plan to apply for a PEPS which could provide part of the funding. Feel free to answer in French, since this will be mostly a French (speaking) event.
