Then I didn't express myself clearly by stating that the userland was 32 bit.
But the point as David Kirkby mentioned often, is that (open)solaris is 64 bit
capable but most of the applications are built 32 bit and this is the default.

On a multilib system that default on building 32 bit having SAGE64 to make 
sure that everything is build 64 bit (if you so desire) is perfectly 
acceptable. Of course its use is rather limited and there is indeed no
SAGE32 counterpart.
