Under some circumstances, having a local copy of python on a machine can
screw up Sage. Any thoughts how this might be resolved?
Currently I'm resorting to changing the permissions to 000 on the
directories containing the python libraries in /usr/local/lib, which is
hardly ideal.

I guess I should have added, my Solaris issue was with matplotlib, the linux
issue was with pil-1.1.6.p2. So this problem is occurring on at least two
different operating systems with at least least two different standard packages.
