Does anyone have an estimate of when 4.4.4.alpha1 will be available? Are many of the fixes for 64-bit OpenSolaris likely to be in this - there are about a dozen with positive review - see http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/9026
I've been approached by a couple of people who will probably help port Sage to 64-bit Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris. on x86 hardware. Having a tar-ball with the fixes would be nice. * Dennis Clark of Blastwave wants to help the port. I've suggested he contact William to ask for a trac account. * A senior Oracle Engineer contacted me last week to offer some advice. I found out last night from someone else that the guy is a mathematician. It would be good to get a software professional, with Solaris skills, who is also a mathematician interested in Sage! * Someone else at the OpenSolaris user group has said he wants to help. I've also been approached by someone who said he might be able to find some time to do some SPARC assembler, though that would benefit components of Sage (perhaps mpir, mpfr, flint or whatever else makes use of assembly code in Sage). Anyway, if I have some idea when 4.4.4.apha1 will be out, and what it will have in it, then it would be helpful. It if is not going to be soon, or not likely to have the Solaris fixes, then I'll create a tarball with the fixes myself. I'm not bothered when the 4.4.4 gets actually released - for development purposes, it makes no difference if the code is available as a "stable" release or an alpha/rc release.
