It sounds quite a reasonable idea to me. You might want to discuss with Peter Jeremy whether it is desirable to install this on FreeBSD too. It would probably help on older HP-UX releases too, if someone did an HP-UX port. There's some interesting things on http://moshier.net/ (for my engineering mind at least).
