The condition number wasn't large (all the numbers were of the same order). It
certainly was a bug which I reported to Mathworks. Last time I tried it (which
was some time ago), it still wasn't fixed. Plus, for real SPD
matrices, they should
be using one of the routines that guarantees real eigenvalues.

The code is on one of my backup CDs so it would be some work to dig it out.
