This sounds right in the case at hand, but I would not state this as a
general rule. By reimplementing an existing library, one is cutting
oneself of from the community developing it; in particular one won't
benefit automatically (or so) from later improvements to this library.
So that all depends on the dynamic of the development of this library,
and how much one can hope to rely it to share work with other projects.
